Sometimes you need to introduce some new songs into your music service’s algorithms to spice things up. Here’s my 10 for 2022:
1.) My Pal Foot Foot – The Shaggs
Arguably one of the worst songs (and albums) that was ever pressed. So bad that it, to a certain degree, starts to sound good, and was even included in the recent movie CODA.
2.) Demolición – Los Saicos:
Considered to be one of the first punk rock bands ever.
3.) Clarinet Polka Yodel – Mary Schneider:
Just fun. I call this song a palate cleanser. If you’ve been listening to a certain genre all day and want to change, pop this on, take a quick break and then play whatever you want next.
4.) Mah Nà Mah Nà – Piero Umiliani:
The Muppets covered it, too, and that’s probably the version you are most used to.
5.) Sphygmomanometer – MC Mr. Napkins:
I don’t think people listen to enough comedic music.
6.) The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins – Leonard Nimoy:
Once a nerd, always a nerd.
7.) Yeh Raaten – Lata Mangeshkar:
One of the most prolific singers on the planet. Most artists have a discography section in Wikipedia. She has a dedicated page broken down by decade and then year, and it still notes that it isn’t a complete list.
8.) Sukiyaki – Kyu Sakamoto:
Although this is a great song, I actually wanted his translated cover of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie because I love listening to a song that is familiar but it takes a while for things to click.
9.) I’m Drunk Again – Hank Williams III:
Hank Williams is country, right? Not always.
10.) Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego – Rockapella:
If you are from a certain generation, you know this song.
